Dogs & Cats
Nov. 24th, 2019 01:09 pmI got called into work today - someone was off sick, we run skeleton staff at the weekend and would I cover. I get paid OT, and just before Christmas on a Sunday? That works well for me.
But oh, the inane chatter is driving me to distraction. We're pretty quiet (which, really, is a good thing. I deal with breakdowns and motor vehicle accidents, so quiet means no major incidents) and I'm pretty much just sitting here reading. The other woman in the office keeps trying to talk to me - it's not someone I know, we're on opposite shifts - and argh!
Am I a dog person or am I cat person? I felt like saying do I have fur, ears and a tail... no, I'm a human person. But I get the feeling that wouldn't go down well. Why can't we have meaningful conversation instead of bland small-talk? Lets talk about Ancient Rome, or performing random acts of kindness or how important mindfulness and meditation are? Ask me me about a cause I'm willing to fight for or the book I'm currently reading.
As for dogs vs cats? Both. I like them both. I have a dog and two cats, both rescued. My dog, Callie, is a German Shepherd, about 3 or 4 years old. Very sweet, very sensitive, loves cuddles and having her neck scratched. And is terrorised by one of my cats, Leo. He's very independent, and it's a bit like living with a teenager - I only see when he's hungry, he's sleeping or when he wants attention. Kenny, on the other hand, is a bit shy but very loving and will jump on my lap the second I sit down.
Now, what random question should I ask Anne to inspire some interesting conversation... perhaps the biggest change she's made in her life in the last year?
